An amazing day
Today my oldest dd delivered her first (more to come I am sure) baby as a L&D nurse. It was scary and she was nervous. Her heart was more into this delivery cause she knows the daddy and mama of the little baby. She also knows all the aunts and uncle and grandma and grandpa on the daddy side. Because the dr did not make it in time my smart laur delivered the first grandbaby of one of my best friends. I am so proud of her. She is AMAZING. The whole thing is amazing

How can this be good?
Senator Barack Obama, Governor Bill Richardson, Senator Hillary Clinton and Ruth Harkin stand during the national anthem.
Barack Hussein Obama's photo (that's his real name).....the article said he REFUSED TO NOT ONLY PUT HIS HAND ON HIS HEART DURING THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE, BUT REFUSED TO SAY THE PLEDGE.....how in the world can a man like this expect to be our next Commander-in-Chief (this was followed by a photo)
Under Obama, a lady I correspond with was told on her nursing shift that an botched abortion had resulted in a small baby being born. She was ordered, at the threat of her job, to only take vitals on that baby and report the time it died. Being a lady that respects life, she disobeyed orders and fed and soothed that baby until it did die. She was in trouble but did in her heart what she felt was right.... How could anything else be right?
I so don't get the Obama rage... maybe McCain isn't my first pick, but for these and some other reasons, I will be voting for McCain.

Just for the record
I am totally for Prop 8. I can't officially vote on this one, but for the record it is my hope that "marriage" will always stay between one woman and one man.
I like to consider myself as one that is kind and respectful to those of differing orientations, but let's not start re-defining words.

Joanna and Christi
The other day I was at the doctors office and when I was called back I thought I recognized the nurse. I looked at her name tag. Joanna? Ah, I remembered.
When we first moved to Provo summer of 1981, we , meaning my parents and two younger siblings, moved into some student apartments. I attended the student ward while my folks went to the family ward. Right in that complex lived Joanna. She was so kind and quickly became my friend. Somewhere along the line it was discovered that Joanna and her family knew my family from before I was born!! She and Laurie were best friends as first graders. In 1981 she told me about the nursing program at a near by college and I credit her with the decision I made to become a nurse.
So as Joanna gave me my flu shot and checked my blood levels, I reminded her who I was. She was so sweet and kind and so happy to reconnect. She spoke so highly of Laurie and how much her friendship meant.
Today I had this same kind of thing happen to me!! My best friend from a single digit age contacted me through Facebook. Christi and I were buds and she was so good to me. I never could make it though a sleep over at any ones house, but she was still my friend. She moved away from California before high school, and we have had a few times we have seen each other. But this was a better contact.. you know, facebook. Long ago friends are almost impossible to find.
I found two.. or got found by one, and found one.. it was very VERY cool.

My David is gone
Dave is on a business trip and it certainly makes time drag. He is in Mexico. I was invited to come along, but I honestly have no desire to go to Mexico and just coming home from the UK I wasn't ready to leave my two boys so soon.
I thought I might include a silly little thing that was started by the Duclos boys, my sisters kids. They figured out little nick-names for the Uncles, only the married in ones though... maybe its cause the sista s are so tight...

two songs
Today while I was driving the boys around I heard two songs that made me so happy!
The first was "ABC" by the Jackson 5. I think it is on my list.. scroll on down, just for the fun of it. A few years ago, I found myself the proud mama of a Lehi High School Encore Choir parent. Encore was the best choir in the school. Manu Harris had made it SO great. Ever since I had heard of Encore I had hoped some of my kids would be involved in that choir. It was the premier show choir. At the beginning of Laura's Jr year, she was in!! Oh such fun! The songs, the choreography, and finally some interaction with a lot of boys, for my ballet dancer Laura. As a "mom-of", her junior year was fun, but her senior year, for me, was a blast!! Maybe it was because there were more kids I knew in the choir. By that time there was a new teacher Tiffany Nutter. She was so awesome. Being only a few years older then the students made for some really funny times. Her good husband was a big part of the party too. Both are so talented and spiritually strong. Perfect influences in my book. It was that year I totally bonded with my very good friend Lisa. (We had been in the same ward for years, but never buddied up.) She and I were tour moms with the group to Anaheim that year.
It was also a time I grew really close to my Laura. I always knew the day would come when she could choose whether I was in her life or not, since she would be moving off to BYU. She got news of her scholarship while we were at Knotts Berry Farm shopping. We were both so stoked.
ABC was one of the songs the kids sang. I so love the memories of that. I also smile from ear to ear when I hear "My girl" I think the only person that really knows how I feel about these songs is my fellow tour mom, Lisa. Ah, wasn't it great? Encore show choir has continued at LHS, but has changed its focus to more of a jazz choir, I so miss the old razzle dazzle. I will always love those memories. Many thanks to Manu, Tiffany, Dave, Nellie, Chris, Tyler, Jillinda, Benji, Emily, Ammon, (my its a small world friend) Jenny, Tyson, Suzanne, Jeanette, Celeste, Jason, David J and cute Cassie, um and everyone else.. and those from the first generation, Debbie, Trent, Chelsea ... what good kids. I think of them when 'those' songs come on.
The second song was by Boston, Its been such a long time, (dont remember the real name). Sweet stake dance memories. It is classic in so many ways. Most impressive is I was driving with Joseph, and he totally knew the song and the band. For a minute I thought I had given him a proper education. Alas, no.... rock band... whatever

In Aberdeen Scotland
after many hours traveling Dave and i arrived on Sunday morning. We played all day MOnday going to two castles one is donnotter and the other one starts with a c... \i forget... google the donnotter one it is a ruin but huge and quite the hike to get to and from. The constant trial is driving on the right side of the street having a stick shift car (shifter is in the middle) and the stearing wheel on the right side.. no, i am not doing any driving.
I had lamb for dinner and feel a little guilty, but try to remember that lamb is a very religious meal and very biblical!! today was all rain, and if tomorrow is nicer \i will be walkin and shoppin in the city.
i m iss all my people.. in the ruins of donnotter i thought ~and yet im offended~ and missed my buddy meg!! i hope to see her on sunday#

24 years ago today
I had my very first baby. Miss Laura Leigh entered the scene and our lives have never been the same. She has been such a fun daughter and I thank heaven that she is still in my life. She keeps me young, despite her claims of someday making me a grandma. I'm so thankful she is in my life. She is a great big sister to the sibs that joined the party. I'm so glad that the tough times never tore us apart. She is a jewel and true blessing to me and her daddy too.

An Army of Women?
A few things happened to me the other day, that came together just a minute ago, when my sister, Holly, sent me this link.

It is for research on breast cancer. I had actually heard this on TV yesterday, but kinda discounted it, thinking giving my monthly platelets was good enough.
Later yesterday, while I was at the grocery store, I passed a woman that looked familiar. She had on a knit cap, like she had lost her hair. I later realized it was a girl I knew from when we lived in Orem. Both she and her husband were dear friends of ours, newlyweds at the time. At the check out counter, I saw her again. I went over to say hi and offer a little light hearted friendship to her obviously hurting life. Indeed it was my friend, and she was so happy to see me and so kind. She told me she had just gotten out of the hospital, where she had had a double mastectomy. WOW! She was so optimistic and up. She has a great attitude. She has great faith.
She is younger then me.
How easily this could have been me.

Note to self
When faced with shocking or distressing news, sit down and stitch or watch t.v. Anything else you try will have holes in it and will have to be redone. Don't type, write, cook, shop or sew on a machine, sure they are good diversions, but nothing turns out right. Trust me... I have it on good authority. Now if I can only remember this advise :p

Something I am watching
Back in August, there was an airplane accident involving the cousin of my brother in law. Three people were involved. One man died, and the married couple involved have been on the long road to recovery in Arizona. They have family in Utah, and are LDS. There are several blogs reporting the progress and fund raising efforts that are on going.
The one I usually follow is http://www.nierecovery.com/
During my reading I found a tiny little way I could try to help. There is going to be a book published with proceeds going to the recovery fund. It is a book of funny things and lifes silly occurances. I decided to submit my whole walmart bathroom ordeal. Check it out.
The recovery story is really something and miracles still happen.

a few deep thoughts
After reading my friend Alishas blog, I am missing my Kimmie. She is so far away and on her own, and sometimes hurting. I fear she is learning to live without me. When I hug my grown daughters, I think -this was the little girl I held on my hip not too long ago. The one I tickled and comforted and rocked to sleep. It's kinda sad. I know it's the circle of life, and I grew up on my mom too, but it still is sad. I am in a house of boys that need me less and less. It is a totally different mindset then it has been for the last 24 years. Ah, no wonder it's painful. I suppose that the mess of finishing the basement, Cub moving out, and it being a presidential election year is no pic nic on the over all peace either. Back to quilt sewing and the cats I guess...

what Ive been up to
Two new princesses for the collection, Aub had to put all of them in the origional yet skanky outfits... Mulon and Jasmine joined the party, oh plus Prince Eric Derrick... what ever.. Aubrey did have to fix his one freaky eye with a marker.

Taste of Home Cooking Show with Laura, I won groceries, and she won a bottle of water. She also chewed much bubble gum while she was with me.
And my stitching!!! cool hua? next month is the last month of the club and I will finish the top of my Thanksgiving wall hanging.

Labor Day 2008
Today we took a leap and had a party with dh's side of the family. We always have fun with that group but don't get together really often. An hour or so into the party our youngest female guest, 4 yrs old, asked if I had any games. Oh boy... I quickly remembered my new fascination with collecting disney princess dolls. They are the rubbery plastic ones meant to be played with. No one had played with them, they were just posing beautifully on my shelf. So I got them for my niece and she started playing with them. The older group played the really-cool-steve-knows-how-to-play-card-game. Eventually Dave was called to the task of helping our little niece match shoes and outfits. He was surprisingly very good at his skills. After our guests left, Cub and I started playing with the dolls. She told me she had two of her own.. and bequeathed me Cinderella's furniture from her set. SWEET! So now I am looking for more play sets like this. I do need the prince guy.. with interchangeable heads, so he can be any prince we need. Heres what I do have. Let me know if you are at Disneyland and I will ask you to help in my new obsession. I will pay :)

Monday night we met at SubZero for a goodbye FHE for Kim. She is off to Hawaii. She traveled all day yesterday and spent the night in Honolulu. Her car actually beat her there, but wont be ready to pick up until today, so she just stayed overnight in the big city. It saves her a little bit of money and time and hassle. She called last night saying it was really humid. I guess it would be :) Glad she made it there.
The View from my house
Monday I was in Provo. When I got on the freeway to come home I saw smoke coming from the mountains. It looked like it was just past the Mt. Timp temple. As I got closer to home, I realized that there must be a fire on the other side of the point-of-the-mountain. Sure enough. It was a brush fire and a little out of control. Some houses had been evacuated. Later that night it rained some. (I thought it was soley because I washed the car. Joseph told me I was wrong, it was because of the fire)
Yesterday as Dave and I came back from the airport, we saw some low smoke right where the fire actually was. It was such a shock to see it.
Well all is well now, but I did take a picture on Monday. Heres the view from right by the Westovers old home.. I know, so sad they moved

Labor pains dont end when the baby is born
Ahhh... milestones and decisions of my people keep coming my way.
Yesterday we dropped Cub off at her provo apartment. Weird stange and a little sad. She is so ready for this step and I know it will be a great adventure for her.
Tomorrow Kim leaves for Hawaii. Wow!! I am so excited for her, yet sad for me. It would make it so much easier if she had a web cam on her at all times.
Mrs Laura has had her own set of disappointments that have hurt me too.
I realize its all a matter of opposition. The good stuff only is good cause there is not-so-good.
I suppose its all good though, just different.

Our 25th
Well the day did not go as well as we hoped. I got a headache from eating too many reeses p b cups, (5 of the tiny ones) so we stayed in and watched the olympics. It was kinda a downer, but I am still so thankful I am married to my dh.
Reminds me of our wedding reception actually.
We planned on a outdoor reception. Right as the last pre reception pictures were snapped, the big ole rain drops started falling. You know, the typical August storm raindrops. Everyone moved the things into the church. It worked just fine. I was a little disappointed by the change, but I was still married, and the rain had no effect on the love I recieved or the love I gave to all the people that came to our party. I still had my boyfriend turned husband. The rain didnt matter at all really.

Such art from Annika! A friend I've known for a LONG time
check these out! so cute. Years ago, we lived next to a family that had twos daughters about the same age as our two girls. The mama was such fun and became a kindred spirit bosom friend. Sadly they moved out of state and we kinda lost track of them. Fast forward to dd #1 buying books at byu bookstore her freshman year, and who should she meet up with? yep, Annika Such fun!!!
So! Our grown up Annika has started her own business on Etsy. I have ordered one of her patterns and am looking at that cake dish and tea set pattern now. hummmm.... that would certainly keep my little hands busy :) check out her cute cute art work and etsy shop.

My first youtube upload
my latest weapon
in efforts to keep our kitties off the new couch we have thought of using several devices. After so thought and trial it is evident that the "Scat" product is the best for us. It is a motion sensor on a can of pressurized air. When anyone or any kitty passes past it blows a short blast of air at them. The top offender, Oz, is very scared of it and now leaves the new couch alone. Sweetie kitty also leaves the couch alone (but she is de-clawed and I tell Dave she doesn't scratch with her back paws-- hes not so sure) but she always sniffs around after the air has blown her way, trying to figure that thing out. Stinky.. I have not seen him near the couch or the canned air. But so far so good. Dave wanted to de-claw Oz, but I couldn't stand having him in the house that much- I mean Oz, not Dave.
By the way, David is the best.. we get closer and closer to anniversary 25! WOW. How can that be? I will save my adoration for him for my anniversary post in a few days. I know, I know... you can hardly wait

an eternal perspective
today has been really good and our exchange student experience is going to be great.
but that update will have to wait, cause I have something else on my mind.
last night was the ward pool party. I usually dont get to visit much with ward members on sunday, because I am tucked into the library for ten minutes before and ten minutes after each meeting. So last night was a rare opportunity to visit with friends. As I sat on the edge of the pool, I was joined by one of my best friends, Lisa. We sat with our legs in the water and we laughed, caught up with each others kids and about ourselves As we talked to told me of a blog she has come to know. It is Adailyscoop.blogspot.com
I have spent some time there today. To start reading today, I scrolled back to May 2008 of her posts. My heart has ached all day for this little mama of girls and her husband. Her trial and endurance have so moved me. check it out... your everyday worries will be lighter and your faith in our Fathers plan will grow. Life is good. Love is powerful.

My poor scouting kid
A few weeks ago my son went to scout camp. Dave was with him. It was a lonely week at home. Last Saturday, they came home and Jacob had mosquito bites all over his arms and back. It was terrible. He had slept outside most of the week without the safety of the tent to keep most of the bugs off of him. We treated him with antihistamine and calamine lotion. He seemed to be comforted.
Two nights ago, he came in from being outside and had welt like raised areas around his back and stomach. Yikes! It is a puzzlement. It certainly isn't slowing him down, but I worry anyway. He had it again last night.. sheese I hate going into the Dr to be told its an allergy and to give him an antihistamine and calamine..
