A few of my recent favorite things

Well, I really like reading other peoples *favorite things*. Unfortunately the one gal that sometimes blogged about some of her favorite things bumped me off her blog-- oh well. So now I share just a few of my newish finds.
* the bodycology bubble bath is the most satisfying bubble bath I've used in my awesome bath tub.
*skintiment in-shower shaving lotion, or maybe moisturizing lotion makes my legs nice and smooth and nice to sleep with rather than the prickly alternative.
*Boogie wipes I found these at Walmart and maybe even at Maceys. They are grape scented baby wipes. My little friend seemed to not mind being cleaned up with these wipes. First time I used them on Jack, he wanted to put them in his mouth. Thankfully, they don't have any flavor because that would cause more problems than they solve.
There ya have it, a few things to try upon my happy recommendation.

Day 17 – your favorite website

hummm, thats a toughie.  I do love Facebook and have been able to catch up with so many friends from the past.  I also love food.com for recipes and recipe reviews, as well as allrecipes.com
I also love blogs that teach me things or inspire me, but I really LOVE blogs of my friends and family.  It feels so great to know more what is going on in their lives.

Getting ready for woman's conference

Thursday was the prep day for BYU s woman's conference. I was there from 9:30-2:00 and again from 5:30- umm 8:30? I came home tired and sore. The evening was spent winding a million sticks with the crocheen thread. We had a lot to do and not many came--- sorry gotta finish later. Baby is here

Im back.  So when not many came, I called my troops in.  Joseph and Jacob came even though it might be awkward for them being the only males there.  Aubrey was with me already.  As we described and got into the project Jacob realized there was a better way to accomplish the task.  He and Joseph went back for the drill. They left about 8 for the promised pay off, and Aub and I stayed until the job was finished.  It was a long good day.

I usually cant get through this song with out tearing up.  A dearly loved friend, who has had more broken hearts than I care to count, told me once that this is a song about him.  Nobody should be alone.  No one deserves to be so hurt

Me and a new friend, day 15

Ive been feeling a little sheepish about this post.  Its supposed to be a picture of a new friend and me.  A friend that I have made this year.  I'm not confident enough to ask any of my new friends if I can snap a picture, so I decided Id write about the new friend I have found in Kale.  Yes, the vegetable. 

Aubrey works at a smoothy place and they make green smoothies.   I've come to like them, because its a great easy way to make sure I get my 5 a day in.  Though I always use coupons, they are still kinda pricey, so sometimes I make my own green smoothies at home.  Start with a handful of raw spinach, a few little handfuls of kale (just the curly part, not the stems) any fruit, Ive used a frozen bag combo from Costco, and  a little sweetener.  Aub uses agave, I often use splenda.  Add in enough water and a little ice and blend as smooth as your machine will get it.  Not bad drinking Id say. 

I do have a few new real people friends this year, honestly.  But I guess my closest new friend is really a veggie : /

Second thought, be warned that when you go into a store with such a sign, the workers may be a little up tight and slow and rude.  sheesh!!!

I was so huffy at MUSIC!

Last night Dave turned a movie on that I had heard of but never seen.  The name totally turned me off before it even began.  It was Space Odyssey 2001.  He told a guy at work he would watch it, if the guy at work would watch a movie Dave wanted him to see.  In the first few minutes, I knew that I was meant to sleep through this movie.  I snuggled in and fell asleep.  I wasn't able to really get to sleep, because the sounds kept waking me up.  I never did hear any voices, just music.  Anyway awhile later, I started having freaky dreams that I attribute to the freaky music in the background.  I was so huffy at that movie.  I couldn't even calm down in my mind. I came out to the family room and watched something else to dissipate the weird feelings I had. I watched Toddlers and Tiaras- that's kind of freaky in its own way I suppose.  Anyway,consider yourself warned.  Don't watch or listen to that movie.  It was so weird I had bad dreams through the night.  You might wonder what movie the other guy had to watch on Dave's recommendation- It was  Princess Bride.

A great find!

So I decided to try and get off one or more of the prescription meds I'm on.  Cholesterol and  high blood pressure, not to mention insulin resistance are some of the problems currently being handled by prescriptions.  They say that if I watch what I eat I might be able to get rid of the problems.  I'm not sure I believe it, but I'm willing to give it a try.  So I'm "watching what I eat" and exercising a little more, but some days I just get as far as getting in my work out clothes and shoes. Anyway, in this quest I have cut out some of my favorite things, but I've recently come across a little gem, or in this case, a few pearls.  four of five of these little chocolates calm down my desire for a twix bar and are light on the guilt factor.  I hear they have a few flavors but all I can find is the mint chocolate and the white chocolate.  The white chocolate isn't nearly as satisfying as the real chocolate.  Its a great little find

Instead of being embarrassed of how much was jammed in my purse, I'm going to be proud that as a wife of an engineer I could fit this much in my purse.

A reminder to enjoy

I really miss having my kids being little. I have forgotten so much of each one as they grew up. I hope I enjoyed it as much as I think I did. Today I am at our old Lehi ward building watching Joseph and friends shoot a film festival video. I know the teenage years won't last forever. I gotta enjoy it as much as possible. It's pretty easy to do. I can't stop laughing at these boys.

Shes official!

My girl turned 21 the other day. She's officially the age of a sister missionary. She wanted to lay low on her very day but she had to work part of the day. Unfortunately she was feeling a little sick so our evening plans were postponed. We did get her a few items for her mission and a cute little cupcake from "Dear Lizzy"
I wonder where she will be on her next birthday. I wonder how I will do without her. I wonder how she will grow and change as she serves and becomes a woman of God.

Day whatever- Something I am OCD about

OCD? OCD? well, I dont know if I am OCD about really anything...... really...
BUT! it is true I have my thing with pillows.  Bed pillows.  I mostly want feather pillows, though foam filled ones have a place in my life as well.  We have a lot of pillows.  Sometimes when Dave is out of town, I comfort myself by getting a new pillow or two.  I have yet to get any square euro style pillows.  Hmmmm Dave is going to Canada soon......

Friday, Laura and I and Jack spent part of the morning together.  We were at Maceys for the cooking class, with my sister Laurie joining us.  After the class we had a little shopping to do so Jack and I walked around together.  At one point, he was on my shoulders and he started to squirm to get down.  I put him on the floor and he grabbed my finger and pulled me over to where there was a fountain for sodas.  Well! of course Gamm ma had to indulge the poor thirsty child, along with a helium balloon.  Last but not least was the candy baa baa near the check out.  He was one happy blue baby! I was a happy happy gamm ma!

Jack has been blessed with SOO many people that love him.  My sisters are part of that group.  I was feeling all special and like I had arrived in Jacks life and then, Steve and Laura took Jack to Kristas house one night to be babysat- Jack gelled right in! No worrys being there.  Kristas house is like disneyland for those of you that dont know, plus all the cousins and the fun happy going aunt and uncle. Heres a fun picture of Laurie my sister, charming Jack with a baby app on her Iphone.  So many grandmas in this boys life.  I am so glad he is in my life.

What's old is new again

Our Highland stake is putting on Roadshows this spring.  Jacob is cast in the perfect roll as a "returned missionary" and Joseph has weasled out of all the practices, what ever--- Its fun to watch it all happen and get to know the kids a little better

A new opportunity

A few weeks ago I was asked to help with a committee for BYUs womens conference.  We had our first meeting this past week.  I will be on one of the service areas for the service night connected with the conference.  I am so honored to be asked.  With in this committee we will be asked to create another committee to work with us.   I am hopeful I can find friends and family that will be interested.  The project will be sewing two rectangles of felt together with a running stitch and attaching handles and a decorative embellishment.  We will need to get about 400 of these made in a 3 hour time frame.  I am really excited to be involved

What I've been up too

Monday night the family went to see the play at LHS.  Even though non of my kids were in the show everyone wanted to go see "The Diary Of Anne Frank"  The students did a fabulous job and were able to portray the seriousness of the show.  They did such a good job that it messed with me when I tried to go to sleep.  I'm going to rent the movie now from netflix.  Maybe even read the book again

A picture that makes me sad

this isnt me, but heaven knows Ive seen my share of sunburns.  I had to have a hunk on my arm taken off awhile ago because of sun damage.  I can only imagine there is more to be found.   Now I always try to wear a hat when Im outside.  Its true, it doesnt add to my looks, but it does help me stay a pain free

My dream home

This challange of my favorite home almost stumped me.  My dream home has more to do with the people I am around than the actual home.  I have loved my family home in Huntington Beach, the home I lived in when I met David, the house my family lived in when I got married, My first married apartment with 3 rooms, and every little place we rented after that.  I loved living in Orem and I loved loved loved our Lehi home.  My Highland home is wonderful and almost perfect.  I wish I could have my Lehi Ward family near me, as well as my parents, siblings, and in laws, not to mention my kids.  I am so blessed to have lots of homes Ive loved becasue of the blessing of great people around me.  Thomas Kincade makes some awesome looking homes too--- maybe Ill have one in heavern :)

I forget what day I'm on

Here's a picture of the person that I have been closest to the longest. The only other possible person would be my Mom, but I don't have an easily accessible picture of us. No surprise that my good husband has been my closest best friend for decades. We have a very good friendship and marriage. I am so blessed to have him in my heart and in my life. He's the best!

Anticipation

In anticipation of Aubrey's first visit to the temple she and I made a stop at the distribution center. We even got to take little Jack with us while his mama slept off a night shift. Aubrey was very happy with our purchases and on the way home said "I just want to hold them". It was very cute.

my favorite book, ok a few of my favorites

Would it surprise you if I said I have lots of favorite books? I love Harry Potter, and the Work and the Glory and the Kingdom and the Crown series but these are my a few of my favorite non-series books.
The first one is Summergreen.  My Aunt Nonee gave it to me when I graduated from high school   I read it every year for many years.  The second book I found just a few years ago and it became a favorite right off.  It is about a boy that finds his life connected with Joseph and Mary and watches Jesus grow up and eventually die.  It makes my heart soft and squishy. 

Sewing again

Since we moved, I haven't found my sewing groove. I just don't have the desire to get a sewing project going. I did volunteer to help sew costumes for the Jr high play and that has persuaded me to play with the sewing things. The costume I'm working on was cut out for me so that was a good kick start. I made the pants, the vest and the bow tie out of this silky fabric. I really have enjoyed doing it. I have my old tape playing tv by the sewing machine and I watched Anne of Green Gables and all 6 tapes of Pride and prejudice while I've sewed. I still think it will take me a bit to find my own sewing happy place, but until then I'm really very content (in a good way) to sew for others.

My favorite TV show

well, as with the other "favorites" I have too many. Not so much on tv, I like all the dorky old shows, some of the food network shows and a few game shows.
Here is one of my favorite though. Its probably the naughtiest show I like. I dont let my kids watch rude shows, but I'm ok with me watching this one. Sometimes I do turn the channel when the kids walk in cause the married humor just might be too much for me to see with them in the room.

I'm obviously not doing this right, but I'll keep on it. Day 4 is a picture of me as a child. This has always been a favorite picture. I didn't realize till now that I look kind of grumpy. I remember that I had just woken up. This is of me and my dad. That's the SLC temple on the background. Pretty sure we were living in California at this point and don't know why we were in salt lake, or where the other sibs were-- ah well. Here tis

Look what came in the mail!

We are knocking out the things to do for the mission. Aubrey's passport came today. It really didn't take long for it to come, we were asked to request the expedited return. Now we are doing the leg work on the visa tasks. Argentina requests a letter from the city where the missionary lives from the police department. We picked that up today too. Good thing she's been a good girl--- besides the clean police record she also carries a temple recommend. (first temple visit is in the works)
If the Argentina people only knew what it took to get one of those documents they would probably not make us check with the police. I guess that's part of why she's going to tell the Argentina folks about temple recommends ;)
So far I know of 3 other people entering the mtc the same day as Aubrey- Scott Raines, Michael Biggs, and Tanner (?) Skousan (I sewed for his brother when he was the lead for Pirates of Penzance, so I know his mom and brother)

maybe all us moms can coordinate to get treats to our kids while they are all in for 9 weeks! Very cool!

My favorite Movie

well, my favorite movie is like my favorite song. How can I pick one? tis impossible. This is an all time favorite. For some reason I always figured this was Sunday approved so during the bishop days sometimes Id watch this with three little girls. This is one of my favorite scenes. This isnt the best movie clip, but at least it has the origional music.
btw, I did read, "Forever Leisel" and liked it a lot.

I'm not sure if I really have one single favorite song, but here's one I really really like. I like it for what it represents, and for the memories it brings.

When Dave and I were first dating, we went on a double date with the couple that had set us up. It was to a dance, like some stake dance we found. Dave and I didnt know each other well but were certainly interested in each other. It was still a little awkward point in the relationship. So, we are at the dance, and over the microphone comes- "we have a dedication. This goes out from Connie to David" Then this song started playing. I was immediatly embarrassed, and then started laughing. We both knew it was Robin and Manny that had played the trick on us. David asked me dance and we went and razzed the pranksters. When we got our wedding rings, we had them inscribed with "always and forever" and not too long ago, David gave me a necklace that I almost always wear. It has the inscription on the back. "there'll always be sunshine, when I look at you" ahhh no wonder its a favorite song! its especially awesome since you can hear that this is a vinyl record being played.... whatever

I now have warm feet

Yesterday Krista told us about wearing these shoe-slipper-boots.

Let me start by saying, though I've been guilty of this myself, no one takes slipper wearing (in public) people seriously-- or flannel jammies either.

(((Side note the other day I saw a guy in a store wearing slippers, flannel pants AND a robe!! Come on! if you really can't get dressed, think about staying home buddy.)))

Well Krista, the university graduate recommend them. Then the pioneer woman blogged about them the same day! I never thought they were incredibly good looking, but after my stomping through sundance looking for a familiar cabin plus the cold-ish floors in my home two witnesses were all I needed to push me into them. Got them today at Costco today and my feet have been warm all afternoon and night! My practical side is happy, and warm

A Sundance get away

On Monday morning Dave left for a three day conference at Sundance. He didn't know if lodging would be provided for him and if so, if it would be private. On Monday afternoon, he called and invited me up for the evening and night. He had a dinner appointment so I ate here and Laura gave me a ride up. He had the lower half of a little cabin that had a double bed and a little kitchen and a wood burning fire place. It was really a nice quiet night talking and relaxing. I went back to Highland for most of the next day, but went back about 7. I was so worried about not being able to find my way back to the little parking lot, I forgot to pay attention to what cabin was ours. I ended up waiting in the car for David for an hour, then went down to the check in desk and they told me how to find my way. Dave was actually late with duties, but came to check on me about 10:30. He had more work so he left for another few hours. I was ok with it and I read. It was a really great business trip for me. Close enough that I could be with him for a little while.

A second offer

We have a second interested family that wants to buy our house. We got the offer yesterday and they know they are second to the other offer, but hopefully this increases the chance of being able to sell our much loved Lehi home.

Aubrey's call, I can now officially say is to Bahia Blanca Argentina!!
A friend of mine died while on his mission when he was in Argentina so that was very much on my mind when she read where she was going.
She's starting on some "learn Spanish" CDs we have and we will get her passport going on Monday. I'm so glad we can start the next part of her preparation now.

3 1/2 weeks later

Well the call came! I checked the mail box 3 times before Joseph finally checked and the mail had came. Aubrey was at work so I texted a picture to her.I brought it with me when I picked her up. Well first I ran into roxberry saying I couldn't wait and her call was for Logan Utah. She was very patient to wait for David to come home. She had a plan on how she was going to open the call. She wanted to be alone with David and I. We went into our bedroom and she sat in the middle of the bed while I snapped a few pictures. She pulled out the thin stack of papers and started to read. She smiled. I said, "did someone guess right?"
She nodded. Then she read the letter from President Monson. Her voice broke as she read. By the time she was done I was bawling, for more reasons than you think  She was called somewhere completely different than where I thought she'd go. I can't say where until tomorrow night as I promised not to put the call on the web. But it's the one country I have emotional baggage with. For about an hour I kept crying. Aubrey knew what I was thinking and reassured me she would stay far from trains. If you know what that means you can figure out where she's going and why I freaked which is kind of psycho and illogical.   David reassures me it was my job to cry and worry and hugged me and let me cry.

She won't leave until May 25. She is anxious to get to the temple.

Come what may, I know she will be in Gods care. I trust our Father.  His plan is the plan.
I'm okay and at peace but still a little shocked. Text me if you want to know where she's headed.

Some very good news

We got word today that little man Carter is home!! His mom and dad will be administering some of the medication he needs. I'm sure it won't be easy, but I'll bet it's great being home. Home together with the while family. Our prayers are still with all of them.

A tough start to 2011

I've had a hard time thinking of what to start 2011 writing about. As usual, you'll get to read about what's on my mind.
Last week I got a call from my sister Krista. It was a call that threw our family into the most heart wrenching circumstance. In the past, I've read blogs of mothers that have endured huge tragedies with their children. (I guess we all have them on some level) but now it was our family's turn with tragedy. My fun smiley faithful beautiful niece, Robin and her great husband, Dennison, had just been told their little three year old boy, Carter had leukemia. It was so hard to believe. How could this happen? Leukemia isn't in our family--- (one case that I know of three generations away.) that diagnosis sent my sister Karie to go to her daughter and her family in Washington. It sent the rest of us reeling with questions, web sites, and many many prayers. We had a family fast on Sunday and I asked myself a few questions. What were we asking Heavenly Father to do? To cure little Carter? Well sure, we would love that. To bless him and his family with peace and soft hearts? Yes we would like that. To help Carter be strong as he faces chemotherapy? Yes. For sure. To help his body respond quickly to the treatments-- yes of course.

No one knows why this is happening. I guess there are things to be learned and experienced for a wise purpose, a purpose higher than we can see.

I guess we fasted for the hand of God to be with Carter and his family as they have a tough time ahead.

It makes my other concerns of saying goodbye to my first missionary and figuring out the jeep replacement seem soooo not important.

The new naughtiness

Why I'm glad sees candy is expensive

For some reason I had to make this new candy for Christmas this year. It turned out pretty well. It is a scotch kiss wanna be, a soft caramel candy surrounding half a marshmallow. I really like it. I ate too many- it didn't take many to be "too many". 3 I think. On Christmas i had two and got a huge migraine sugar headache They are delightful. We are waiting for Aubrey's mission call to come. We thought it would come yesterday. Well, it didn't. Thankfully there is enough other things to do to keep us occupied for awhile. Laura said it must be taking a little longer because they need to really make sure her call to the SLC temple mission is right for a Lehi girl ;)

Last Saturday I was laying in bed texting my last post about going to the when a call came in erasing my post. It was Joseph. He had left about 7:30 am for work at south town mall. The morning was unusually snowy. The snow really started Friday night and I actually had the thought that night that the snow was going to cause our family a wreck. So Joseph got to the other side of the point of the mountain, a typically more dangerous part of the freeway, and did a couple of spins on the ice. He ended up in the right shoulder, er... Passed the right shoulder where the jeep had run into a wire type fence. He told us about what had happened and we got his location just as the highway patrol got there. We jumped out of bed and got to him as soon as we safely could. He was sitting in the patrol car, to stay warm and safe, when we pulled up. He came back and got in with us shaken sober and prayerful. He still wanted to go into work, so we took him. We're not sure of the damages but the jeep was "undriveable". He did get a citation for going faster than conditions allowed-- bummer. We are so thankful he was ok and that no other car was involved. It could have been so much worse.

What we ate

So for what ever reason I've been very neglectful of my blog. Sore-ey. I needed something kinda big to pull me back to the blog world so you get a food review. Last Friday we found ourselves all alone. We had tickets for the whole family to go to The Christmas Carol at
The Hale Center Theater. The kids all took off early saying they would meet us in Orem-- so David and I hit a place in Orem to grab a bite. I had been there before but was not that impressed. It is called Paysen or something close to the city of my birth Payson. It's run by the cafe rio peoe but it is Italian food. We got the chicken Florentine soup and a sandwich, and a little panna cotta to share. The food was tasty and easy to get quickly. We will go there again.
